Lift the bag above your head and rest it upon the <i>fleshy</i> part of your upper back (I.e. not on your neck), and stabilise it by holding onto the handles. Start with your feet together and lunge forward and low enough so that both knees are at 90 degrees and your weight through the front heel, ensuring the back knee does not hit the floor. Step back to the start position and repeat with the other leg. I d been going to the <a href='http://newsletter.thirtysevendegrees.co.uk/tracking.asp?ID=235' target='_blank'>gym</a> for the past 10 years to try to change my body and that extra stone was still there. Could 10 weeks really make a difference? <br /><br /> When I first met my personal trainer, Mike, for the Ten Week Life Changer programme s free consultation he explained that just 30 minutes of intense training was equivalent to running for close to an hour on a treadmill and enough to raise my body s metabolism for several hours. Five minutes into the consultation training session my heart was pounding, I was gasping for air, my face had turned the colour of a tomato, and I was convinced to try the <a href='http://newsletter.thirtysevendegrees.co.uk/tracking.asp?ID=236' target='_blank'>Life Changer Programme.</a> <br /><br /> I train with Mike three times a week, the course beginning and ending with a fitness test from Conrad to assess all 3 energy systems. Some days he puts me through what he calls  The Crusader , which is an abbreviated version of the rugby team rugby workout, and other days I lift weights or swing the kettle bell for what seems to be an eternity. He manages to stay upbeat and encouraging even through my whinging, ouch it hurts and I m so tired moments. With Mike, however, there is no stopping, no quitting and no leniency. <br /><br /> As part of the programme, I also meet with a nutritionist, Anna. She has taught me the importance of eating protein with every meal and of portion control. She designed a personalised diet for me, incorporating the foods I like to eat, and gave me recipes for new dishes to keep the diet interesting. It s an eating plan I can easily follow and one which doesn t feel like a diet. I check in with her from time to time to get advice for dealing with drinks parties, business dinners, and Christmas lunches. It helps to stay focussed knowing she s there if I need her. <br /><br /> Since last year I ve suffered from Achilles tendonitis. Initially I was told by a physic to stop all types of sports. Over the last few months I have been able to take Body Pump classes and maybe a spinning class, but after the classes I would be limping in pain. During the Life Changer consultation with Mike, I was half hoping he would say I didn t qualify because of my injury, but he easily listed 20 exercises I could do that wouldn t aggravate my tendonitis but would raise my fitness levels. <br /><br /> Right now I m happy to report that I ve made it to week 7 of the Life Changer Programme. My clothes are loose, I have much more energy, and I can manage 25 push-ups in a row. Oh, and that extra stone?
